Shopping list
- 1 pound Ground turkeyMeat
- 3/4 teaspoon SaltPantry
- 1 tablespoon Olive oilPantry
- 3 slices or buns Bread or bunsBread
- 1/3 cup (optional) Shredded cheeseDairy
Do this
- 1Put turkey in a bowl. Sprinkle salt on it. Mix with clean hands just until the salt disappears. Do not knead it like dough — that makes tough burgers.
- 2Divide into 3 balls. Flatten each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Press a small dent in the center with your thumb so they do not puff into meatballs.
- 3Heat a skillet on medium. Add oil. When a drop of water sizzles, add the patties. Do not smash them.
- 4Cook 5–6 minutes. Flip once. Cook 5–6 more minutes. They are done when the middle is 165°F or no pink remains when you peek with a knife.
- 5Add cheese in the last minute if you want a melt. Toast the bread in the empty skillet 30 seconds. Assemble. Eat. Leftover patties reheat in the microwave — cover them so they do not explode.
